Theodore: 4 Months

9.26.2012

You are 4 months old big boy!

Here are some of your stats for the month:

-You went to the doctor Monday and weigh in at 13 lbs. 4 oz.

-You are in size 2 diapers.  You are in 3 and 3-6 month clothes.

-You've accomplished holding your head up.  Such a strong boy.  Now onto sitting up.

-Still rolling from belly to back, but not the other way around yet.  You sure try though!

-You know mommy, daddy and sissy's voice.

-You are so smiley and started laughing this month.  Very much a boy laugh.  You are ticklish under your chin and on your feet.  Madelyn likes to tickle your feet.

-Still a fan of bath time.  You've discovered how to splash!

-You are still sleeping pretty well.  Great at night!  Your naps are a little hit and miss.  Sometimes it's an hour sometimes 2.  You're growing like crazy so always very hungry.

-Your naps are typically from 9am-10:30am or 11am and afternoon nap from about 1pm-2:30pm.  Then you take a catnap around 4:30pm or 5pm and wake up around 6pm ready for that last bottle.  You go down early like your sister, around 7pm.  But you don't wake up until 7:30am or 8am.  Just whenever mom and dad get you up.  You are very happy in the morning.

-Eating 8 oz. every 3.5 to 4 hrs during the day.  We switched you over to soy yesterday and it seems to be helping your tummy.  We'll try it for a month and see how it goes.  You're Eating rice cereal 3 times a day and just started veggies yesterday.  Your first is carrots and you seem to like them.  You're not spitting them out, so that's good!  Next is peas.

-Starting to "talk" a little more and becoming very observant of things.

-You are definitely a thumb sucker!

-Doing great for all babysitters.  You love to be cuddled and they sure love to cuddle with you.

We sure do love our baby boy!

Madelyn: 18 Months

9.20.2012

Madelyn Joy,

You are a year and 1/2!  Cannot believe it.

You are growing and learning so much.

-Weighing 24lbs 10oz and 30.5" tall

-Still in size 18 month clothes and some 2T.  Also still in size 4 diaper.

-Sleeping great during naps and at night.  Still taking 2 naps a day, but the morning one is getting shorter.  Only about an hour each day.  Your afternoon nap is a little later.  You normally sleep about 2 hours for this one.  Still go to bed pretty early around 7pm.  You sleep until we come and wake you up.  Typically 7:30am or 8am.

-Loving bath time and splashing everywhere.  Good thing daddy gives you a bath!

-You're great playing in your "playpen area".  You've started putting your books up on the couch and reading to yourself.  So cute.  You're pretty content in there for awhile.

-You have walked about 6 steps straight by yourself!!  Good job, sweetie!  You don't pay attention to where you're going so you walk on anything that's in your way.  At playgroup the other day, you would balance on anyone in sight...kids, toys, parents, their cat.  Whatever.  It's fun to watch you develop this skill and have such a HUGE smile on your face when you do it.  We're proud of you, kid.

-Still eating like a champ.  You think it's so funny to drop food on the floor and watch the dogs scramble to get it.

-Mommy started back at work and you've done great (from what mommy's heard) with Miss Tamara and Grandma Izzy.  Such a good girl.

-You went to your first fair and loved it.  Especially the food and animals.

-No new words this month, but you do babble constantly.

-You love to stare and point at your brother.  You make lots of funny faces at him.

How's it going?

9.05.2012

Lately, people have been asking us, "How's it going with two kids?".  Our answer, "Fantastic".  We are loving it.  Before Theo was born people would tell us, "You know it's going to be so hard with two kids so close in age!".  You think? ha!  We knew it would be a challenge and it certainly is, but much better than we thought it would be.  Tim and I didn't really know what to expect, except, how could we love someone as much as we love our little girl?  But our hearts have expanded even more and we are in love with our baby boy.  And ya know what else is great? Madelyn loves him too.  It'll be fun to watch them grow up together being so close in age.

Madelyn changes everyday.  She is very much an active toddler which makes things hard, but so much fun.  She reacts to situations and is trying to imitate everything you do.  She also understands more than we think she does.  Which can be fun and a little scary.  She's very good at playing independently, but loves it when you play with her.  I was getting ready the other morning while she was playing in her room.  When I came in to see her, what was she doing, reading to herself.  It's so cute to watch.  I figured she might be stringing toys all over her room (which this does happen..often), but no, she was sitting quietly on the ground reading to herself.  Madelyn's not much of a TV watcher, which is good and bad.  More good than bad I think.  It'll hold her attention for maybe 5 minutes, then she's off playing with something.  She loves turning on and off lights.  We've had to move her crib to just about the middle of the room so she doesn't flip her light on and off.  She said "light" for the very first time this morning.  I'm telling ya, something new every day.

Theo is changing everyday as well.  Getting bigger, smiling and watching everything his sister does.  Eating and sleeping like a champ.  He loves when you leave him unswaddled so he can find that thumb and suck away.  But mean old mom and dad swaddle him up so he can't get to it.  Sometimes (well many times) he gets mad and cries for awhile, but eventually falls asleep.

I keep both kids to a schedule, but you definitely have to be flexible with them as well.  I read the book "Babywise" before having Madelyn and it worked wonders.  And it's working for Theo as well.  They both takes naps about the same time and sleep well at night.  What more can you ask for? =)

The doggies?  Yes, they're still around.  Of course, they have gone down the totem pole a little bit, but we still love them.  Sadie sits next to whoever is feeding Theo.  She likes to be right up next to him.  Daisy, well, she's our spacey dog.  Sits on top of the couch most of the day watching people, animals, leaves, whatever moves.  She has to be in the same room Sadie is or she goes crazy.  Daisy is our digger.  Loves digging holes outside.  This means we have to take her out on a leash.  Not really what we were hoping for since we specifically got a fenced in backyard for the dogs.  Sadie's fine out by herself, but Daisy, not so much.  That's ok..maybe someday she'll learn.  One can hope.

Tim and I are great.  Better than ever really.  I just started back at work two weeks ago.  I only work 2 days a week from 7am-4pm, but it's still...work.  It really is a nice schedule for me.  I get to stay at home with my babies some and then get out of the house and not change diapers for a couple days.  Tim has now added another job to his resume.  He's teaching PE and Music Application at the school where I work.  He'll do that everyday in the afternoon.  It's expensive to live up in Seattle, so we've gotta make things work somehow.  This means one of us having extra work.  Tim's also still doing seminary classes through Multnomah Seminary in Portland.  I'm also teaching 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School at church.  It'll be a busy year.

When we moved into our house a couple years ago, we were thinking more houses would be built.  Well, they are finally all built and sold!  Yea!  Two Saturdays ago, we had our first neighborhood barbecue.  It was a lot of fun and had a good turn out.  Tim and I have met people as they have moved in, but it was good to see them again and learn more about them.  We have quite a diverse neighborhood-caucasion, hispanic, asian, middle eastern, african.

That's what's going on with us.  Like I said, it'll be a fun and busy year.

The State Fair

9.03.2012

Last night, Tim and I took Madelyn to the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. Our friend, Heather, volunteered to watch Theo.  Thanks Heather!!
We headed out after Madelyn's afternoon nap and dropped Theo by Heathers. It didn't take too long to get there. We walked around the fairgrounds, ate yummy food, sno cones, saw the animals and people watched. Madelyn was content hanging out in her stroller (which makes it much easier!). She's still a little too small for the rides; maybe next year.
Now onto some pictures...
